Local tax payers face a hefty legal bill after a High Court judge quashed the decision by the local Tories to rule out developing land at Manydown.
Lib Dems had warned the Tory administration for many years about the issue but were ignored.
The site to the west of Basingstoke was purchased for £10m in 1995 so housing for future generations could be well planned and include affordable homes.
Past supporters of the ‘Save Manydown Group’ took senior roles in the Tory cabinet which, in the view of Justice Lindblom acted in an ‘unlawful’ manner to block development of the site.
Two years and close to £1m has been wasted putting together the flawed plans.
The Council has been ordered by the Court to start again.
