Once again, this year’s borough council election in Brookvale and Kings Furlong was a close race between Labour and the Liberal Democrat Focus Team as local campaigner, John Shaw cut Labour’s lead in the area down to just 69 votes.

Liberal Democrat predictions that UKIP and the Conservatives could not win were proved right as those two parties virtually tied for third and fourth places on just 18% of the vote each.

Commenting on the result, John said:  “I’d like to congratulate my Labour opponent on his election after a hard thought election campaign and wish him all the best for his term of office.”

John continued: “It’s been an honour and a privilege to serve as councillor for my local area for these past 16 years. I’d especially like to thank local residents for their help and support throughout this time and also let everyone know that the Liberal Democrat Focus Team will keep working hard all year round for our local area.”
